The Grande Finale has arrived!!
I had a doctors appointment earlier in the week when I was 39 +1 weeks and she did another sweep and I was at 3-4cm and baby's head was engaged. I was surprised that I didn't go into labor the rest of that week. My doctor was heading out of town on July 29th so she mentioned that if I wanted to be induced on that Saturday (27th) I could be but it would be an elective induction, this way she would be the doctor to deliver Tate. I decided on Thursday I was going to go ahead with the induction unless baby came before however I felt uneasy and not really excited to have him in that way. My whole pregnancy I wanted it to just happen on its own without any inductions since my last two had to come that way, so on Friday I decided I wasn't going to go in and was just going to go about the weekend and see what happens, in hopes I would have baby before the doctor left on Monday.
Our week went on and on Friday I went to the gym and while Kylee swam I walked two miles on the track which took me a good hour! Even with how slow I was walking I was sweating like crazy and I felt horrible after. I wanted to throw up! This same feeling happened on Saturday while we were at a friends house and I blamed it on the heat. We came home and I went right to bed. Sunday I took two naps and we then went to Red Robin for dinner and I started contracting a little more than usual. They were more of a cramping feeling. We decided after dinner to go and walk so we walked the mall for a little bit (it was closing) then went home and Colin and I walked around the block. While walking I had this weird jolt of pain like something shifted internally. I am guessing baby moved into position or turned. I was fine after the walk so I did some ball bouncing and I made myself a castor oil milkshake with 2 tbsp of castor oil. I had done this before and it didn't work. So was pretty doubtful that anything would happen that night...
**When I took the picture above I was laying down cause I wasn't feeling well and so decided to take a picture of my bump. It was about 9pm on the 28th and I was going to be 40 weeks at midnight. Who would have thought that just a couple hours later I would be going into full on labor and having precious Tate on his due date (July 29th) at 2:01 am . So this literally was my last belly bump picture that I took.
Well, at 11pm I was eating my words! The contractions seemed to be very present and very close together. This HAS happened before but not with this intensity of pain so I did what I know the labor nurses would tell me to do before coming in. I took a shower (still felt them while taking my shower), I drank a glass of water (still present), and I laid down on my side in bed (this was actually very painful and made things worse). After none of that worked I decided to just sit on my ball for awhile and see if they would settle down and if sleep for me was going to happen. This whole time yes Colin was asleep! I didn't want to bother him because I swore it was false labor. However the contractions only got worse to the point of I couldn't even walk over to the bed and tell him to wake up so I had to shout at him that I think it was getting time. In timing them they were 2-3 minutes apart and they seemed like they weren't letting up. Colin sat with me for a little bit and I decided to call my stepmom to have her and my dad come to the house. I was so worried that it was false labor and I was waking them up for nothing. By the time my dad arrived (to stay at the house to take care of Hunter) I could barely get up off my ball to walk down the stairs. By this time Kylee was awake and waiting to come with us as well and Colin packed up the last few items to take just in case this was the real deal. Off to the hospital we went!
In the car I couldn't sit down at all! I had to keep myself propped up and off my lower half. Let me tell you going over the slightest bump is killer when you are in labor!! We arrived to the hospital and got checked in. (there is no way they were going to get me to sit in a wheel chair) It was Colin, Kylee and Patty there with me. I was in so much pain but doing pretty well breathing through the contractions. I thought "ok I can do this without drugs." They checked me and sure enough I was 5cm so I got admitted. They had me walk to a labor room. I managed to give Colin a smile for the camera before another contraction hit.
As you can see the pain in my face...it was not from the IV but from a contraction. She kept saying sorry cause she had to poke me twice and I said I am not even paying attention cause the contractions hurt way worse!
Once the IV was in she told me to let her know if I felt any extra pressure and well sure enough I did. She checked me and I was at 8cm! This was 30 mins later from being just 5cm. The doctor came in and I was so excited because it was MY doctor! I didn't realize she would be on call til 7am Monday morning! I am so glad she was there cause she knew I could do this and at one point during delivery I totally needed her. She said she could pop my bag and it would be pushing time and I said "lets get going then." So I did a couple of pushes and the cervix needed to thin out a little more however I couldn't stop the pushing at that point! You know how hard it is to hold a push in??? VERY! I had to hold two pushes and finally I told her I can't I need to push. My mom is in Texas and she is always on the phone through each of my deliveries. She was on my cell phone which was right by my head/ear. As I was working on holding those pushes in she kept talking and I had to finally tell her she can't talk anymore cause I was trying to focus and it was throwing me off a little even though she was being so sweet. However I noticed about 5 minutes later that she either really knew I meant business so she wasn't talking at all or....WE LOST CONNECTION! At that point I am about the push the head out and I was freaking out worried she was going to miss the birth cause not like I could stop what I was doing. So I told Colin and he said its ok and tells me to keep pushing (like it was ok that she wasn't on the phone um no that was not ok at all!) and I was like NO WAY get my mom back on the phone and HURRY! So we finally got her back thank goodness right in the knick of time too! That would have been the worst thing ever if she didn't get to hear the first cry.
Well, my camera was suppose to be rolling this whole time so I could have the birth on video and it didn't happen. I guess Kylee thought the camera was on but it wasn't. I was rather sad about that cause I literally had my eyes closed the entire time cause it was the only way I could focus on what I needed to do. So I am relying on my husbands "birth story."
HUSBAND'S Version: I delivered Tate's head pretty quickly and I didn't realize it was even out. I guess I was waiting for someone to say yay the head is out. Since I never heard that I was freaking out that if the head wasn't even out there is no way I could deliver this baby! I was pushing with all I had in me! I looked over at my stepmom and mouthed to her while crying that, "I can't do this." Well Colin said that after the head came out there were problems. The cord was wrapped once around his neck so the doctor removed that pretty quickly but then he was coming out facing sunny side up along with a hand up by his head. So he said that the Dr had to shove her hand up there and pull out Tate's hand along with his shoulder in order for me to get the rest of him out. I said "NO WONDER that hurt so bad!" So he came out flying like super man.
Delivering him was so much more painful then I thought it would be! I know that if he didn't have those other issues it would have not been as bad so I am thankful that I got through it and without any tearing and no drugs. He was rather pale when he was born, to the point that I told them it was ok to take him he needed to start crying so I didn't freak out. Plus I still had to birth a second baby...the placenta!
No one ever talks or warns you about birthing that and OMG that was as bad as birthing Tate cause I had to wait for it to dislodge from my cervix which was about 20 minutes. It felt like I had a really bad UTI! I had to also push the placenta out so it was like delivering twins! That thing was huge!
Tate was rather pale when he was born and wasn't crying right away so when they handed him to me I was worried about him and actually said to go ahead and take him and get him to not be so pale. So as you will see in these pictures below he was pale. I would say it took a good 30-hour to get him to have normal coloring. I kept asking if he was ok cause he was so pale.
This video was on Sunday morning (I went into labor that night)
